Navigation, tabs, and frames
Understand which pages and embedded content belong to your recording.
Recorder follows supported navigation during capture, including single-page application URL changes. Page boundaries still matter when you review what was recorded.
Start on the application page
Section titled “Start on the application page”Open the application before selecting Start recording. Local recording derives its capture scope from the starting hostname family. Connected projects use configured domain and network rules.
Keep a note of the starting page and any required login or application state. An exported initial navigation opens a URL; it does not recreate that state.
Follow navigation and new tabs
Section titled “Follow navigation and new tabs”Normal navigation and supported SPA transitions can appear in the action history. When the recorded tab opens a new tab, Recorder switches to it and stops capturing the original tab. This switch also happens when the new destination is outside capture scope, so the resulting evidence may be incomplete. Opening an unrelated tab does not switch capture. Closing the currently recorded tab stops the session.
Check the recorded page URLs after a cross-domain or new-tab step. If part of the flow lies outside the configured scope, describe that gap and ask the project administrator to review the capture rules.
Inspect embedded frames
Section titled “Inspect embedded frames”Captured iframe actions include frame provenance. Values from untrusted frames may be omitted or masked; project configuration determines trusted-frame value capture.
When a frame’s action looks incomplete, record its source URL and compare it with the configured trust and domain rules. Do not infer that the user left a field blank because its value is unavailable.
Understand component boundaries
Section titled “Understand component boundaries”Recorder supports actions in open Shadow DOM and records selector alternatives where available. Closed shadow roots and inaccessible browser surfaces can limit the available target details. Generated tests may need manual locator changes for frames and components.
Preserve the interval you need
Section titled “Preserve the interval you need”Navigation does not extend the retained timeline. The starting page shown for that interval can represent where the retained segment begins, even when earlier navigation has been evicted. Use short checkpoints for longer journeys.
