Fairlead Recorder Extension Privacy Policy

When you use Recorder without signing in, nothing is sent to Fairlead. Learn what stays on your device and what to review before sharing exports.

Updated

Allyx, Inc. (“Allyx,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides the Fairlead Recorder browser extension (“Recorder”). This policy explains how Recorder handles information when you use it without signing in.

In this mode, Recorder sends no data to Fairlead. Recording, review, and export take place on your device. We receive no recordings, usage analytics, telemetry, or diagnostic reports from Recorder, and we have no access to your local evidence.

Our platform Privacy Policy covers Fairlead accounts, connected product features, our websites, and information you send us, including support requests. This Recorder policy supplements it for local use without sign-in.

1. Use Without Signing In

Select Continue without an account to use Recorder locally. No Fairlead account or connection to the Fairlead platform is required.

Recorder keeps captured data in browser memory and local browser storage. It does not upload recordings, report how you use the extension, or add Fairlead tracking or correlation headers to the website’s requests. Generating and downloading evidence also happens locally.

The website you test continues to make its own network requests. If you choose to re-download an image in the viewer, Recorder requests it from its source website. Your browser, websites you visit, and tools you use to share files handle information under their own policies.

2. Information Recorder Captures Locally

Recorder captures evidence to help you document test execution, reproduce bugs, and verify fixes. Select Start recording to begin and Stop recording to end capture. Recorder captures the selected tab and can follow a new tab opened from it. The panel also reads the active page’s address to show where recording will start.

Depending on the page and available browser data, a recording can include:

  • Page activity: clicks, navigation, scrolling, selected keyboard events, form values, selected text, file names and properties, and details of page elements and changes.
  • Network activity: request and response URLs, headers, cookies, available bodies, timings, and WebSocket messages.
  • Diagnostics: console messages, errors, stack traces, browser logs, and performance measurements. Some buffered performance measurements may relate to activity before recording started.
  • Browser context: browser version, page address, viewport size, language, display preferences, and connection information exposed by the browser.
  • Images and written information: screenshots you take, images you attach or paste, captured image previews, and titles, descriptions, notes, or annotations you add.

This information stays on your device in local mode. It can include personal data, passwords, tokens, or confidential content from the application you test.

3. Files You Export

Recorder generates files on your device and saves them to your browser’s download location. Downloading does not send them to Fairlead.

File Contents
network.har Captured HTTP requests and responses, including headers and available body content
console.log Console messages and stack traces
steps.json, playwright.spec.ts, puppeteer.js Recorded actions as browser automation steps or scripts, which can include URLs, selectors, and input values
session.md Session title, description, browser and timing information, recorded actions, and evidence summary
notes.md Saved notes and pins with their evidence context; included when present
screenshots/*.png Screenshot and image attachments

Files depend on the evidence available. The download is a folder of files and does not contain everything shown in the viewer.

You decide which files to share and with whom. Uploading them to an issue tracker, sending them to another person, or saving them in a synced folder places copies outside Recorder’s local storage.

4. Review Before Downloading or Sharing

Before downloading a report, review the captured information and redact sensitive details where needed. Automatic redaction does not identify every sensitive value.

Recorder masks password fields and common credential fields by default. You can review supported fields and make additional redaction choices. Original values can remain in local storage for review; choosing Unredact can include an original value in an export.

Console text, screenshots, and information you write are not automatically redacted. Inspect request and response bodies, URLs, input values, notes, and images. Downloads can include images marked Exclude from report or Outside recorded period, so check the actual screenshot folder before sharing it.

Review the exported files before submitting or sharing them. Record only information you are authorized to handle and share only the evidence your recipient needs.

5. Local Storage and Deletion

Recorder keeps the current session in memory and browser session storage so you can review it after stopping. Images are stored separately in a local browser database. Preferences, such as appearance and your choice to continue without an account, are also stored locally.

Starting a New recording clears the previous session and its stored attachments. Browser session storage is cleared when the browser restarts; stored images have a separate cleanup process, so closing the browser is not a way to delete all local evidence.

Downloaded files remain where you saved them until you delete them. Clearing a session or uninstalling Recorder does not delete downloads or copies you have shared. Their security depends on your device and the storage or sharing services you choose. Allyx cannot retrieve, restore, or delete evidence held only on your device.

6. Chrome Web Store User Data Policy

Recorder complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. These restrictions also apply to Recorder data shared through connected features covered by the platform Privacy Policy.
