# Fairlead platform: Give quality work its own capacity

Canonical: https://fairleadhq.com/platform/

Updated: 2026-09-29
Publication state: published
Product version: platform

Agent summary: Fairlead adds autonomous quality engineering capacity alongside development. Fix investigates bugs and delivers fixes with reproduction tests; Test generates and validates unit tests. Teams set scope and review changes. Product calculators use work-time baselines and explicit assumptions to estimate capacity and cost. Human review remains part of the workflow. Rebalance, Select and Replay are in development.

Autonomous quality engineering that keeps pace with code creation, so your team can keep the roadmap moving.

- Your project: Code, bug reports and available telemetry
- Fairlead: Investigate, generate changes and run checks
- Your team: Review changes and decide what to merge

## Keep the roadmap moving

As teams use AI to produce more code, investigation, testing and validation need capacity to keep pace.

- More changes to understand: Every change needs checks against the behavior your users depend on. Failures need context, reproduction and investigation.
- The same people, more quality work: Developers still own features, architecture and product decisions. Quality work draws on the same time and attention.

- 20 to 30% of developer time goes on QA
- 15 to 40% test coverage is where most teams sit
- 30 to 100× more to fix a defect in production than while coding

Add capacity for that work, so your team has more room to build what matters.

## Quality work runs alongside development

Run bug fixing and test generation against your existing repositories and tools, while your team continues planned work.

- Your team. Set the priorities: Choose the bugs, services and coverage gaps that matter to your project.
- Fairlead. Execute the workflow: Investigate failures or plan tests using the code and project context you provide.
- Your team. Keep building: Continue feature work with the development tools and coding assistants you already use.
- Fairlead. Work through the checks: Generate code or tests, run the relevant checks and repair failed attempts within the workflow's limits.
- Your team. Review and decide: Assess the changes against your requirements. Your team decides what to merge.
- Fairlead. Deliver reviewable results: Return pull requests with code and tests, or findings and evidence when work remains unresolved.

## How the platform works

Fairlead takes in your tickets, code and telemetry, and returns fixes, tests and context to your repository, your team and your IDE.

- What comes in: Tickets that QA files with enriched descriptions from Fairlead Recorder, your codebase, and logs and observability data where available. The Fairlead agent runs beside your application and passes on telemetry from manual checks and end-to-end test runs, whether they use Selenium, Cypress, Tricentis, Playwright, Browserbase or another runner.
- What the platform does: Fairlead stores the telemetry, code and tickets, and its products work from them to find the affected code, fix bugs, gather context, measure coverage and generate tests.
- What comes out: Bug fixes and tests reach your codebase through git and CI, reports reach your users and stakeholders, and context reaches your IDE or coding agent over MCP.

Repository access and a working build environment are required. Backend correlation also needs configured request headers and server logs.

## More room for the work that matters

Keep engineering judgment where it belongs, with the people who know the product.

- Features can move alongside investigations: A bug-fixing run can progress while developers continue planned work, with findings available when their input is needed.
- Review starts with a concrete change: Inspect the fix, reproduction tests and check results together. Human review stays part of the process.
- Test work has a place in the schedule: Run test generation against selected code and review the coverage added, along with scenarios that could not be completed.

| | Typically | With Fairlead |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Test coverage, within weeks | 15 to 40% | 80%+ |
| Developer time on QA | 20 to 30% of capacity | Under 5% |
| Bug fix cycle time | About 7 hours a bug | About 15 minutes |
| Coverage drift | Falling about 1% a month | Held above 80% |
| Preventable defect cost, mid-size project | $30,000 to $50,000 a month | Largely prevented |
| Engineering capacity returned to feature work | Lost to QA and bugs | About a third |

## One platform, a product for each bottleneck

Each product takes on one kind of quality work. Fairlead Fix, Fairlead Test and Fairlead Recorder are available today, and the other three are in development.

- [Fairlead Recorder](https://fairleadhq.com/): Local-first browser bug reports, as a free Chrome extension. Available.
- [Fairlead Fix](https://fairleadhq.com/platform/products/fix/): Root-cause fixes, not stack traces. Available.
- [Fairlead Test](https://fairleadhq.com/platform/products/test/): Autonomous unit tests for existing codebases. Available.
- [Fairlead Rebalance](https://fairleadhq.com/platform/products/rebalance/): Fix the inverted pyramid. In development.
- [Fairlead Select](https://fairleadhq.com/platform/products/select/): Run only the tests a change can touch. In development.
- [Fairlead Replay](https://fairleadhq.com/platform/products/replay/): Record once, replay at scale. In development.

## Ready from day zero

Fairlead is production ready out of the box. Connect your repository, and set up secure connectivity if your environment needs it, and your first tests and fixes start landing. No lengthy implementation, no infrastructure to stand up.

### A pilot shaped around your needs

Every app and team works a little differently. When your workflow, codebase or requirements need extra care, we work with you through a hands-on pilot to adapt Fairlead and assess the results together before a wider rollout.

The timeline below is for teams that need a tailored pilot. If you're ready to connect and start, you can get going without one.

- Alignment (About a week): Agree scope and success criteria; Capture code style and standards; Map test frameworks and CI/CD; Review legacy systems and constraints
- Connect (About a week): Connect repositories and trackers; Set up secure connectivity, if required; Configure for your stack; Onboard the pilot team
- Tuning (Two to three weeks): Run bug fixing and test generation cycles; Review results with the team; Tune the quality of what comes back; Iterate until the criteria are met
- Go or no-go (About a week): Evaluate the pilot results; Reach the decision point; Formalise the operating model; Define responsibilities
- Scale up (Ongoing): Extend to more teams; Start a community of practice; Establish governance; Monitor coverage and return

### What we support today

Where a connector or a language is not listed, say so. We build them in the order people ask for them.

- Languages: Java and Python today. C#, JavaScript, TypeScript, Rust and Go are on the way. The logic is built per language rather than generated by a general purpose assistant.
- Version control: GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps and Bitbucket, cloud or on-premise.
- Task tracking: Jira and GitHub Issues.
- Models: Model agnostic across the major providers. Your data is never used for training or fine tuning.

## Built to run securely

Fairlead is a managed service. There is no infrastructure to provision or maintain on your side, and the compute that does the work runs on ours.

- Integration: Connect repositories and work management tools over OAuth 2.0 or an API token. No network level access is needed for cloud hosted tools.
- Secure connectivity: For on-premise or private environments, an outbound-only TLS tunnel agent, static IP allow listing, or VPN peering.
- Data security: Encrypted in transit at TLS 1.2 or better and at rest with AES-256. Source is read only and is not stored beyond the processing window.
- Access control: Single sign on over SAML or OIDC, role based access control (RBAC), and full audit logging. Each customer environment is isolated.
